On April 15, the City Council appointed Mayor Pro Tem Chris Fielder as the new Citizen-Director to the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority Board of Directors.
Cowman was reaffirmed as the council-director for the BCRUA board.
The cities of Round Rock and Cedar Park have both appointed additional Council members to the board.
Each city appointed an additional board member; the increase from three to six members was approved Feb. 18. citizen-directors were not granted voting power, to avoid having a tie vote because of the even number of members.
The Council approved Keystone Construction, Inc. for the construction of Segment Three of the Block House Creek Wastewater Interceptor for $311,400. The contractor also built the first and second segments of the wastewater connection.
Construction bids opened on two city construction projects today.
City Engineer Wayne Watts said bids opened today for the second phase of the Crystal Falls Parkway improvement project. The second construction phase will improve the road from toll road 183A west to US Highway 183.
Construction bids opened today for intersection improvements at Osage and Lakeline Boulevard.
The Council approved a $205,000 construction contract to expand police training facilities. The total cost of the project is $232,049; funding is from the 2007 $21 million bonds. Tolero Construction is the contractor.
The Leander Police Department Shooting Range, which has a 25-yard shooting range, will be expanded to include a 50-yard rifle range. An agility course will also be built.
Police Chief Don Hatcher said improvements to the shooting range will allow for a more secure location for rifle training.
The new track offers the department its own training site which “will be built to our standards” and will more easily allow the department to adjust training drills, he said.
Currently the department uses Leander school facilities.
The new one-eighth mile track will have obstacles along the way including fences for jumping over and duck-under, a dummy drag – all part of the new officer qualification standard training and ongoing officer testing.
